Are you a proud owner of a PC? If yes then there are a set of tasks that you must do. You must always do all these tasks but often you don’t. If you are savvy PC users then you should definitely practice these good habits. There are many of your relatives and friends who don’t practice these tasks so you can pass these tips to them and save them from a lot of computer misery in the future.

List of tasks

  • Get a system restore or recovery disk: A recovery disk enables you to keep a copy of restore partition that is available with most of the PCs. Though some PCs have a window installation disk or a restore disk still you must have your own. If your hard drive fails then you will be glad that you had the recovery disk. There are a number of PCs, which have OEM software for creating a restore disk from the restore partition. This won’t replace an updated full backup but still, it is better to have something than nothing. If you want you can even create a new drive image with all your latest files. So, that you can use one of the free disk imaging programs and make an image of an entire hard drive on an external hard drive.
  • Always create back up of your data: This is very old advice but it needs repetition. You know you should have a backup but you may not have one. Usually, it is neglected but backing up personal data and files is a must. If your hard drive crashes or you lose your personal data to some malware infection then you can easily get back all your precious photos and files. It is a simple and quick process so you can easily do it frequently. A USB flash drive is the best place to put all the data backups.
  • Write down the Windows product key: If your system breakdown they have to reinstall windows. In that situation, if you find that you don’t know the product key for original installation then you are in great problem. That’s why you should always record your product key in a safe place somewhere.
  • Get an emergency Windows boot or startup disk: At times your PC may not boot or load Windows when you turn it on. An emergency repair disk that can be booted will solve your trouble. Both Windows 7 and Windows 8 provide you an opportunity to create a CD or USB key that you can use to repair a Windows installation which has corrupted system files and won’t boot. This is a smaller disk than a full installation or restores disk. It has just a set of tools to help you repair the Windows system.
  • Have a bootable rescue disk with anti-malware programs: In case you get a malware infection that prevents your system from booting then an external bootable disk with anti-malware program or programs can save you. An anti-malware program can easily deal with an infected PC. Along with that, it helps you to create a bootable disk.
